A fact, in science, is not a mere fact, but an instance

Check out Bertrand Russell's article 'Characteristics of the Scientific Method' here. Though the practical relevance and accuracy of some of his arguments have changed after 80 years, the crux hasn't. Philosophy of science is a highly delightful and delectable subject (about which scientists are unfortunately unaware or lukewarm) . If you could persevere through slightly complicated language, you will find this readworthy.

He passingly mentions the discipline of animal behaviour, which makes it even more interesting for some of us.
